Letters to Santa, tree lighting at Forum
The Forum Carlsbad hosts its 20th annual tree lighting from 6 to 9 pm Dec. 2. The evening will include a live performance by Crown City Bombers, holiday characters and entertainers, Santa and a light show and snowfall. Families will also have an opportunity to visit and take photos with Santa. Also, children can drop wish lists and letters to Santa in a special mailbox outside of Geppetto’s. The Shoppes announces holiday hours
Brookfield Properties, the retail real estate landlord of The Shoppes at Carlsbad and other San Diego shopping centers, will close its shopping centers on Thanksgiving Day. The centers will reopen at 9 am Friday for “Black Friday” to kick off the 2022 holiday shopping season. Brookfield also owns Otay Ranch Town Center and Chula Vista Town Center. All its San Diego-area malls will extend operating hours starting Dec. 10 through Christmas Eve. Black Friday hours are 9 am to 9 pm Starting Dec. 9, hours will be 10 am to 9 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11 am to 7 pm Sunday starting Dec. 11. Stores will be open from 9 am to 6 pm Christmas Eve , closed for Christmas Day, and open from 11 am to 6 pm New Year’s Eve.
‘Pawliday Market’ helps benefit dog rescue
Second Chance Beer Co., the “Seize a Pint, Save a Pup” brewery, holds its inaugural Pawliday Market from noon to 4 pm Dec. 4. The dog-friendly event is free to attend and features beer specials (including Frosty The Hazeman Hazy IPA), dog adoptions from Second Chance Dog Rescue, holiday card photo ops with Erin Wiese Photo and Puppy Picnic Co., and pop-up shopping with more than a dozen dog-themed vendors. Annual Artisan Faire coming up
Fallbrook holds its annual Artisan Faire, featuring the handicrafts of local artisans, from 9 am to 3 pm Saturday in the downtown area on Main Avenue between Hawthorne and Alvarado streets. The free fair also features art objects and live music. The town’s Farmers Market will also be open from 9 am to 3 pm nearby, on Main Avenue between Alvarado and Fig streets. Job-readiness program expands to five cities
The Carlsbad Job-Readiness Room program recently expanded to add four North County cities and is now called the North County Job-Readiness Room. The Readiness Room is free for job-seekers and businesses. It is aimed at helping North County residents build job skills and get a guaranteed interview with a company in Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos or Vista. Entry-level workers can take 15 hours of skills training online at their own pace. Once the program is completed, clients will receive a micro-credential, plus help getting a job interview with a local company in the fields of hospitality and tourism, manufacturing or general office administration. This program is designed to help people who have been out of the workforce and are experiencing barriers to employment. The North County Job-Readiness Room is a partnership between the cities of Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos, and Vista, and local chambers of commerce and the San Diego North Economic Development Council.
